The Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo

Northern Savo is a Finnish region of great natural beauty with a strong economic basis and population of about 260 000, which is growing.

Well-being of people as a development objective

The most important objective in the regional development work is to improve all living conditions in the region. The main part objectives in this work are the following:

• development od the regionīs economic basis
• strengthening of know-how and infrastructure
• internationalization of Northern Savo
• strenghening of the regionīs identity and image
  

The Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo furthers the regionīs development

The Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo acts for the benefit of the region and its inhabitants as the member municipalitiesī joint organization engaged in development, planning, research and safeguarding of the interests of the region.

As the regional development authority in Northern Savo, the Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo is responsible for the general development of the region, for which the Council specifies the development objectivies and the ways of realizing them.

As the regional planning authority under the Finnish Building act the Regional Council of Pohjois-Savo draws up the regional plan and steers its realization in the municipalitiesī regional structural, land-use and environmental planning.
